Samsung has announced a recall of the Galaxy Note 7 along with a halting of sales after concerns of faulty components causing battery overheat and even explode. The company said it had “conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue.”

Samsung halted Galaxy Note 7 sales and new launches in most markets except for China. The Galaxy Note 7 was just released in the region, and sales will continue because the units sold in China have batteries that come from a Chinese supplier, ATL. While Samsung subsidiary Samsung SDI supplied 70% of batteries for the phone and Samsung identified those batteries as posing risks,

1. Samsung’s official statement on the recall says that the issue relates to the battery cells used in some Note 7s, which lines up with the earlier reports of phones catching fire and exploding. Low-quality battery cells are susceptible to overheating and failing when charged and used heavily.

2. Flaw in Assembly of the Battery: Technical personnel indicate that chemicals in it are greatly active and have a low boiling point. Electrolyte can vaporize when getting heat. Furthermore, the expanding gases will break through the assembly. This will lead to explosion if there is electric spark.
